Vegan BBQ is 43% healthier than a meat BBQ, a new study reveals

New study unveils the British favourite summer barbecue dishes and ingredients.

  • Falafel burgers and pulled jackfruit are the most popular vegan barbecue dishes in the UK
  • An average vegan barbecue dish has only 208 calories, compared to 369 in a standard meat option
  • Vegan BBQ has las fat and cooks faster

Leading motorhome rental company, Camptoo, has analysed the most popular recipe sites in the UK to find out what dishes Brits will be grilling this summer.
In their study ‘Britain’s Best BBQ’, researchers examined all aspects of Brits’ grilling habits, from their favourite vegan foods and recipes, their nutritional content and ingredients.
According to the study, an average vegan barbecue dish has only 208 calories - 43% fewer calories than the classic meaty barbecue dish.
The vegan option also had less fat (9g) and more fibre compared to a meat dish.

The study shows that most vegan barbecue recipes require less cooking time. It takes on average just 22 minutes to cook a vegan option, which is
31 minutes less than cooking a classic barbecue dish.
Please don’t get too excited, though, as we have some bad news, too. Unfortunately, vegan recipes often have higher sugar levels (10g) and more carbohydrate (22g).

Brits favourite and most cooked vegan barbecue dishes are falafel burger and pulled jackfruit, a pulled pork alternative. Avocado is also one of the most popular ingredients.

Camptoo’s Head of Wanderlust, Ed Bassett, commented: “While there were no major surprises in terms of most popular meats or BBQ food types, there were some very interesting differences in terms of how recipes ratings and popularity was affected by factors such as calorie count and protein contents.”
“Our analysis of vegan recipes also provided intriguing results, and it’s nice to see exactly what meat alternatives are being used on barbeques.”

“With the summer BBQ season fast approaching, this research has given us a flavour of what to expect on the grills across campsites up and down the UK.”
Summer is here, and many of us would like to lose some weight after the long months of staying at home during the pandemic.

It’s time to get some veggie burgers and pulled jackfruit on the barbecue!
